Local Area

Devon is a beautiful county in the South West of England with rolling hills and stunning coastlines. North Devon takes full advantage of the sun with southfacing beaches that capture the sun right until it literally disappears over the ocean horizon. Devon has the perfect mix of unspoilt beaches with wild rugged countryside, there’s so much to explore.

Holwell Holistic Retreat is situated in a prime location with equal distance from the coast to the moors. Within fifteen minutes you can be exploring the dramatic North Devon coastline, or you can be taking in the views as you walk one of the many footpaths leading through Exmoor.

We are very lucky to have some of the countries best surfing beaches right on our doorstep, in fact our nearest surf beach is recognised internationally as one of just 12 world surfing reserves. Woolacombe is a stunning beach with fun learner waves and wide open sands and is considered to be one of the best places to learn to surf in the country. We can recommend local instructors who provide top quality surf lessons. If surfing isn’t on the agenda, then a trip to the beaches at Woolacombe is still very much worth it for the views and warm sand between your toes.

Our nearest cove is just ten minutes drive away in Combe Martin. Here you can explore stunning coastline by foot or sea kayak tour. This is one of our most recommended experiences as it is sure to really wow your guests. The friendly tour guide will point out marine wildlife and secluded beaches, and may even take you through a stunning cave if you’re lucky with the tide times! Combe Martin is also great for paddle boarding and wild swimming.

Combe Martin bay is looked down upon by the tallest sea cliff in the country, Greater Hangman. From the carpark in Combe Martin you can take a moderate hike up the Hangman Cliffs, where you can climb right to the top of Little Hangman and take in some really breathtaking 360 degree views. The hike is steep and really gets your heart pumping.
